Proposal to avoid a clash with Bahrain F1, but above all to guarantee the presence of the MotoGP teams in Qatar and avoid the problems of 2020 when only Moto3 and Moto2 raced

MotoGP: Today the meeting between Dorna, FIM and teams: Losail GP to be brought forward to March 21st?

Today, at the end of the meeting between Dorna, IRTA, teams and FIM we will know more, but something is beginning to leak out after the cancellation of the tests originally scheduled for Sepang from 14-16 February (shakedown for testers and Aprilia) and from 19-21 .

With all the material already in Malaysia, the decision has been made to move the winter tests directly to Qatar, which is easier to get to and therefore less expensive. The scheduled date, announced in recent days, is the one that goes from 5-7 March for the test riders, while the MotoGP riders should test from 10-12 March. Moto3 and Moto2 will test from 16-18.

With the first Grand Prix scheduled in Losail on March 28, this would mean that the MotoGP teams have to go home, and return to Qatar later. A nightmare due to the current measures related to quarantine, as well as a higher cost.

We recall that last year the Qatar GP was disputed only by the minor categories - Moto3 and Moto2 - precisely because the premier class teams were unable to arrive in the Gulf state due to the travel restrictions.

That’s not all: with the cancellation of the Australian GP, F1 will start in Bahrain on March 28th, clashing with the MotoGP round.

For this reason they are thinking of moving forward the first GP of the season to 21 March. In this way the world championship would guarantee the presence of all the teams in Qatar, without forcing any category to stay long.

This would be the most logical choice, but obviously all the parties involved will have to be in agreement.

The possibility of a Losail 2 still remains on the table, in the more than likely event of a decision to cancel the subsequent Argentine and Texas Grands Prix, on 11 and 18 April respectively.

In this case, the second GP in Qatar would replace Rio Hondo, while Portimao would take the place of Austin.

In fact, Dorna's aim is to hold all 20 Grands Prix, for obvious budget reasons given that the main revenues derive from the television stations.

At the moment, in the scheduled calendar after 11 July (GP of Finland) there is a space caused by the withdrawal of Brno, to complete the 20-race calendar.
