SBK: BSB, Storm Stacey renews with GR Motosport

As the days go by, the climate and the environment becomes more and more festive and the British Superbike grid begins to take shape. Not only riders with great experience, in the land of Perfidious Albion they are strongly investing in the so-called "young generation", as confirmed by today's news: Storm Stacey will continue with the GR Motosport team again in BSB 2021. Fresh from a positive debut season, the 17-year-old youngster will thus have an opportunity to continue his adventure aboard the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10RR.

An encouraging debut

A career matured in amongst the supporting classes and a third-place finish in the British Motostar Moto3 trophy at the tender age of 14. A promise that, after a single year with production-derived bikes and a further third place finish in the British SuperStock 600, allowed him to make his full-time debut in BSB British Superbike. The team led by Brent Gladwin had a great idea to give him an opportunity, albeit with some headaches: by virtue of Stacey's age of 16 years at the time, the MSVR championship promoter and MCRCB had to issue a special license to allow him to race.

With a 2020 season that started with a delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as the events continued the class of 2003 rider gradually got to grips with his Ninja ZX-10RR until he scored his first championship point in Race 2 at the Silverstone 'National'. He further improved on that result in the Donington Park 'Grand Prix' weekend, with 13th place in Race 2.

Looking towards 2021

For Storm Stacey, the first contact with BSB proved to be constructive and fruitful and now, with one year’s experience behind him, the goal is to systematically fight for the points area and show his potential wherever possible.

“I feel like this year went really well for me and I scored points on more than one occasion – declared Storm Stacey - I think the highlight was at Donington Park where during the race I was running in the top ten, although I was racing against some big names. I have learnt a lot this year; especially that one of the things with the Superbike is that the slower you think you go the faster you actually are. One thing I have found is that in qualifying, you need a good position; it is so hard to get through the pack in this class, and so that is also something to work on for next season. In 2021 I want to learn more and keep finding my feet in this championship, because I only did it in the races last year as we didn’t really do a lot of testing. Again, next season will be another year of testing, finding out what works for me, how we want the bike set-up and I would like to be pushing for the top ten or even maybe a bit better! But I would be happy with top ten finishes and see what happens.”
