Pecco Bagnaia was third-quickest today, a result that after so many complicated performances, finally puts a smile back on his face. The Pramac team rider today seemed at ease with the GP20 again and seeing himself in the top positions of the standings made him breathe a sigh of relief.
“After a long time, today I felt again the sensations I had experienced at Jerez and Misano - Bagnaia told us - In reality I expected to go fast last weekend in the race but only having one dry session available (together with turn 1 full of water) and starting back on the grid didn't help. This year there is a lot of grip here but above all it is consistent and I can manage it better ".
Pecco, as mentioned, you have come through some complicated weeks, how do you keep your concentration high in these cases?
“At Le Mans I was unable to show my strength due to the rain and then there were two really tough weekends at Aragon. It was not easy to arrive at MotorLand and have to struggle, I don’t deny that there were some tough moments but with the team we continued to work and start the weekend with these good performances, giving a nice boost of confidence to everyone. "
Pecco, what do you think are the problems of this GP20? What have you suffered most in the last few GPs?
"If I knew what all the problems were then we would have sorted everything out - said Bagnaia with a smile - I believe that in the last few weekends our biggest problem has been at the front: we were unable to warm up the tyre quickly and so here in Valencia I focussed on pushing hard under braking right from the first lap and even if it is a bit uncomfortable it is a choice that then pays off. Today I am one of the few to have made the time with the hard tyre".
Miller said that today there was also the time for some tests for 2021. Did you try anything on the bike as well?
“Today I mainly used my usual set-up and everything went very well, in FP2, above all, the pace was very good. Like Jack, I also tried some changes for next year but at the moment I still prefer my basic set-up, with that I can express my potential to the fullest, on 2021 we will work on it later”.
