Fans of Jorge Lorenzo, all those who were enthusiastic about his possible return as a full-time rider with Ducati from 2021 tomorrow will have some small consolation: 'Porfuera' will be out on track at Portimao.

We are clearly talking about the test organized for MotoGP, which will make its debut at the Portuguese circuit for the last race of the season. The test riders of the manufacturers will be taking part, but also riders currently competing for the world championship; the only thing is the latter will have to ride production bikes.

The lap times, therefore, will not allow a direct comparison, but it will be an opportunity to see ‘George’ back in the saddle after almost nine months.

"The goal in this test in Portimao is to get back on the bike because spending nine months without riding a MotoGP bike is a long time, almost one year - the Majorcan told AS - I've never had so many free months and it will not be easy. Also, it is a new and complicated circuit from what they say, with many ups and downs, with blind spots and so on. The goal is to make a good gearbox, and a good base set-up so that when the official riders arrive the bike will be more or less ready ”.

Lorenzo recently said he broke off talks with Ducati after deciding he no longer wanted to race. But apparently Jorge would like to continue riding.

"I would like to continue to be a test rider, because I think it is an almost perfect job for me as a motorcycle enthusiast. The only thing missing is the feeling of winning and fighting for a World Championship, but otherwise it's perfect, because it takes away almost all the pressure when riding as a pro. You train a few days and have a lot of free time. I would like to continue. The priority is to continue with Yamaha. I hope that after this test they are satisfied with my work and want to continue. Let’s see what their plan is and we’ll talk about it after this test. "

Yamaha, like all manufacturers today, needs a test team but in reality so far - Covid-19 aside - it hasn't made much use of the 5 times world champion.

"Covid has complicated everything - confirmed Jorge Lorenzo - We had about 15 or 16 days of testing scheduled and in the end, due to the logistics of the mechanics' trips from Japan to Europe, I don't know exactly why, but it was not possible, because they could not travel with the facilities and all our tests were cancelled ".
