SBK, Baz: “I was closer to winning yesterday, today Redding had more”

“Maybe this weekend will help define my future in Yamaha. Now, only the last race is judged, and mine was good.”

A solid weekend, and one that was topped off with two podiums, as the race towards the trophy for best independent rider in Estoril continues. Loris Baz will probably think about this in the morning as he looks back and judges his performance in his home round.

I’m really happy at the end of this home weekend, where there were also fans. I took home some important points for the championship.”

That’s what the Yamaha Ten Kate rider said in the Magny Cours Press Room after Race 2. Even yesterday, in the first race of the weekend, the French rider managed to grab a second place behind Jonathan Rea. Today, however, it was Scott Redding who denied him the joy of a victory on his home track. Loris only “lost”against the first two riders of the world championship, in the two races at Magny Cours. A good booty, even if he can’t rejoice over a victory.

I would’ve liked to win, but Scott had more today. I was closer to a victory yesterday. I felt better on the bike. Today, I looked for the right balance to push without overheating the tires too much.”

Loris Baz currently appears to be out of the game for the spot alongside Toprak Razgatlioglu in the official team for 2021 but, after a weekend like this one, never say never...

"It's good to be second today too. I think this weekend could help in making decisions for my future, I hope. I think we have to judge all the performances of the championship, but it seems that we only think about the last race in this period. Mine went well this time.”
