MotoGP, Pecco Bagnaia says he’s still friends with Rossi after Sunday race

"After the finish he seemed to yell at me, but I was just asking him his position. The leg is fine, I just have to rest. Difficult for Marquez to return to training after a long time"

MotoGP: Pecco Bagnaia says he’s still friends with Rossi after Sunday race

Pecco Bagnaia has already finished his tests at Misano. After a productive morning he preferred to rest his leg after Sunday's efforts. “After a few laps I realized that I was tired, but now I will have two days of absolute rest before getting back on the bike” explained the Pramac team rider.

It’s impossible not to ask him about Sunday's race and above all about an episode that struck the fans in the lap of honour when Rossi seemed to be angry with him.

“From the images on TV it was not clear, but we were quite distant and if we had embraced we would have fallen off the bike - he explains - It seemed that Valentino was yelling at me, but in reality I was asking him if he had finished 3rd, it would have been fantastic. Don't worry, we're still friends” he smiles.

Have you watched the race again, any regrets?

“I've watched it at least 6 or 7 times (laughs). Unfortunately in the early laps I struggled with the front tyre because the pressure dropped, from the moment everything returned to normal I was able to push ”.

How does it feel to get back on the bike after your first podium in MotoGP?

“If it were a normal season I could have enjoyed it more, but there are 3 races in a row to think about. It is certainly a great satisfaction, there was an incredible job done by the team and the riders of the Riders Academy were awesome. They are all happy ”.

Did you talk to Ducati's top management after the podium?

“Yes, but only about the race and these tests (laughs)”.

What race are you expecting on Sunday?

“For me it will be different because now I know that my leg will not give me any problems, so I can start well from Friday. I’ll have to see if the medium tyre at the rear will be an option for the race. "

The next goal is to win…

"I want to be as competitive as last week".

Did this morning of testing help?

“I'm happy with how it went, I was able to keep a very good pace and I did my best lap on used tyres. I also tried a completely new rear set-up, it's a solution that could help me in the future ”.

Did you also try the radio communication system?

“Yes, but only in the garage. The headset did not isolate well from the noise and I did not want to go deaf (laughs), so I put earplugs in to ride. In the future I will definitely try it, although I don't think it is really useful for warning about the presence of yellow or red flags, because they are usually seen without problems. In Jerez there were some problems with this, but luminous panels would be better, as in Formula 1. Instead, it would be interesting to use the radio to hear the communications from the pits ”.

Marquez started training again today 6 weeks after the operation, how long did you wait?

“Only 5 days, because my goal was to race at Misano. With an operation like mine it would normally take 2 months of rest, but I couldn't and didn't want to wait that long and we shortened the time. However, it's not easy, I lost 4 kilos not being able to train normally, but it's amazing how the body can change after an operation ".

Do you think it is even more complicated for Marquez?

"Every person is different, Marc has shown that he is an animal, what he did in Jerez four days after the operation was incredible. It is certainly difficult to return to training after such a long time ”.
