MotoGP: Rossi focuses on Misano: “An opportunity to develop and be at the top.”

The Misano Grand Prix is always a special event for Valentino Rossi, and it's his home race almost in a literal sense, since  he lives just a few kilometers from the track. This time, however, the double appointment in Italy could also be crucial for Yamaha, that's coming from an absolutely disappointing results in Brno and Austria.

Usually, the M1 adapts very well to the characteristics of the Romagna track, and this year it’ll have to make the most of the two GPs that the track will be hosting.

Of course the Doctor is focusing heavily on the two consecutive Italian races.

The two rounds at Misano will be the next appointment. Racing on this track has always been very special to me. It’s really close to my house, just ten kilometers away,” he said. “It’s really easy for me to get to the circuit, and it’s also convenient to be so close to home. We were very strong here last year, so we hope we can continue to develop over the next two weekends and get some positive results. Last year, I just missed the podium, and I want to fight for the top positions this time too.”

Maverick Vinales: “I want the podium in Misano, and I want to improve my position in the standings.”

If Rossi wants to make up for it, Maverick Vinales wants to even more,  because he’s coming from two disastrous races at the Red Bull Ring. In the last one, he even ended up without brakes, risking it really big.

I made good use of the two weeks off to prepare for the races here in Misano,” the Spanish rider  assured. “I’m in good shape, both physically and mentally, so I’ll be pushing hard again this weekend. We’ll be fully focused on improving our position in the championship standings .  This is the general objective and, to reach it, we’ll have to get on the podium. I’m feeling optimistic and excited for these three weeks. We know we can be strong here in San Marino and also in Catalonia, so we need to make sure we make the most of these races. These next two GPs are a bit like home races for the team, so I want to get the best possible result.”

Yamaha is also looking towards the future and is focused on improving their bike. In fact, they’ve  planned a day of testing in Misano. As team manager Massimo Meregalli  revealed: “On Tuesday next week, we’ll also have a test in Misano. It’ll be a very important day, because it’ll be the first and last opportunity for us to try out new material this season.”
