The news of a second place at the end of the first day of testing at the Red Bull Ring could be the cover story for Andrea Dovizioso, but actually it’s not. The market issue remains hotter than ever, especially after the widely anticipated confirmation of Davide Tardozzi who said that after the two Austrian rounds, Ducati will make its decision about Andrea's future. Tardozzi himself also added that Ducati "holds Jorge Lorenzo in its heart", a phrase that can be interpreted in many different ways.

“It seems that Tardozzi is the person who has to decide my future - Andrea commented with a smile - but that's not the case, he's not the person who will make that decision. What I can say will be denied, but at the end of the day it’s Gigi (Dall’Igna, Ed.) who is in charge".

Returning to the action on the track, Dovizioso seems to have found the right path, at least on a friendly track like the Red Bull Ring.

"Being one of the first is important, as is being able to set a good time as soon as I wanted it. I don't feel reassured, I simply found the confidence in braking that I was looking for: it was the first thing to rediscover, because we can improve from this in other aspects as well. In these days we have studied the data a lot, both mine and that of Bagnaia and Zarco and the results seem to be there, even if the layout of this track helps me ”.

Andrea is focussing on the tyres, which continue to influence the season of the man from Forlì (and not only him) for better or for worse.

“The rear tyre available here is different from that of the other tracks, Michelin is forced to modify it due to the characteristics of the track. Because of the tyres it is an anomalous season, in this respect Marquez is not involved. The problem of adapting to the tyre is shaping the championship, and this makes the season unusual. I don't know if Marc would have had problems too, not having any proof I would like to think so ”.

In conclusion, Dovi thought about the race for a moment, reckoning that there will be a lot of contenders for the win.

"It is too early to talk about the race, but at the moment I think I am one of the riders who will fight for the victory. In my opinion, other riders will emerge tomorrow if it doesn't rain, a lot of bikes can be fast here, and I think the fight for the win won't just be about two or three riders like in the past. Personally, I will have to improve in the third sector, which has always been our weak point, while in the rest of the track I have some cards to play ”.
