The memory of the Czech Republic GP is still fresh in the mind, but it’s already time to think about the Red Bull Ring. The Austrian track will host the next two races and it is no mystery that it is not the most suitable one for Yamaha. Valentino Rossi will have to make the best of things over the weekend and try to continue his progress.

“At the end, the Brno race was positive for me - he started with a comment about last Sunday – Unfortunately, I made some mistakes Saturday in qualifying and I started from the fourth row. In the race I felt good on the bike, I had a good pace and made up positions, trying to ride clever. We did all the race with Rins to arrive at Johann on the last lap but it wasn't enough for the podium. On the one hand, I'm happy because I rode well and enjoyed it, on the other I know that we need to improve something especially on Saturday and try to start in a better position. "

Especially at the Spielberg, where everything is more difficult for Yamaha…

“On paper it's not a good track for the M1, because top speed is not our strong point - admitted the Doctor - But last year we did a good race, even though I was a bit too far from Honda and Ducati, but we fought for the podium. Here we will have to try to be strong and fight for the podium again ”.

The biggest unknown factor is the weather, and there are even those who have doubts about the safety of the Red Bull Ring in case of rain.

“The forecast can change from the morning to evening, it is not clear what will happen - explained Valentino - I think that in the past we had some problem with the braking for the turn 1 and the turn 3, we had a lot of crashes especially in the Moto2. The problem was perhaps because there was a lot of rubber on the ground and became very slippery with the water, and after they then cleaned it and the situation improved. We will see if the conditions are safe enough”.

The Styrian sky, however, will not be the only question mark. The championship is increasingly uncertain and making predictions is very complicated…

"The championship is really open for a lot of riders - confirmed Valentino - Not just because Dovizioso is in a bit of trouble up to now and Marquez is injured, but all the results are correlated to how the tyres work. The first 10, 12 or 15 are all close, and we can change from morning to afternoon. In Brno Binder was out of Q2 and then won the race. As I said, everything is open and it can be very funny to follow ”.

Rossi does not even think that KTM will be out of the title race…

"Why not? The improvement since last year has been impressive, and KTM have put a big effort for the MotoGP programme - he said - They were already competitive at Jerez and, without the crash of Pol, they can arrive first and second in Brno. Here they are very strong, maybe the favourites, I remember that last year Oliveira already had a good race. They have a minimum of three riders in great shape, they can fight for the championship for sure”.

His final comment was for the news that Misano will open up to spectators…

“You cannot imagine Misano without the fans - he said - It is a big event, and our place Italy pushes to have two races. There will be 10,000 people every day, it’s not like full, but the atmosphere will be much better than with no fans. I hope it is a point to start again and get back to normal as soon as possible”.
