MotoGP, Espargarò: "Disappointed and angry, Aprilia is not at the level I thought"

Aleix: "I had a difficult week. It's not a question of asking for more time, we've been in the MotoGP for years, I want results now."

MotoGP: Espargarò:

Disappointed and angry", these are the two words with which Aleix Espargarò describes his state of mind after the two GPs in Jerez. The Spanish rider is not free from blame, having crashed in both races, but the new Aprilia is also experiencing some problems, with an engine carefully lowered by a few hundred laps so as not to compromise its reliability.

"Normally, I forget everything quickly but, this time, it was more difficult " Aleix admitted. "I didn't have an easy week. Now I have to try to reset, finish the race, and gather information."

However, Brno will not be the best place to get back on top, because it's a track where the engine makes the difference. “Do you want to make me even more angry?" Espargarò smiled when he was reminded of this.

But the situation is exactly that.

On this track, acceleration is the most important thing," he confirmed. "I'll try to risk less this time. That doesn't mean that I won't give it my all, but I won't try the impossible. I'll be more realistic. I made two serious mistakes in Jerez but, besides that, the level of the RS-GP was far from what I expected after the tests.”

The bike is young. In these cases, it takes time, but Aleix doesn't want to wait.

We'll need time, like everyone else, but this is the world championship," he emphasized. "I don't understand why I should ask for more time. I've been riding this bike since 2017, and Aprilia has been in the MotoGP since 2015. With the new rules, the freeze on development for the other bikes, 2021 could be a good opportunity for us, but I don't want to wait, I want results now.”

It won't be easy, also because, as we known, Iannone is out, and Smith is trying to replace him as best he can.

I know it's complicated for him, but I'm totally focused on myself," explained Espargarò. "I can't waste time worrying about what's happening on the other side of the garage, because I'm not where I want to be. I know Bradely will start this weekend with some parts that are different from mine, in order to assess them.”
