MotoGP, Rea: "Aprilia came to visit me, but I would've liked Pedrosa's place"

“It was the year Dani Pedrosa was talking about retirement. I think it was around the Le Mans weekend, and Chuck Aksland, my manager, was trying to get me on the Honda Repsol. That would have been nice."

MotoGP: Rea:

In an interview with WorldSBK, Jonathan Rea revealed that he had a request for information on the possibility of replacing Dani Pedrosa in the Repsol Honda team for the 2019 MotoGP season before the team signed with Jorge Lorenzo.

“It was the year Dani Pedrosa was talking about retirement. I think it was around the Le Mans weekend, and Chuck Aksland, my manager, was trying to get me on the Honda Repsol. That would have been nice."

A bike that the Kawasaki rider, at the time when he was still with Honda inthe  Superbike in 2012, tried out instead of the injured Casey Stoner, getting an eighth and a seventh place in Misano and Aragon, respectively.

“I haven't had many options, to be honest. In an ideal world, I would like to have chosen, but there was nothing concrete, for sure. And I doubt that Kawasaki will return to the MotoGP. "Other than that, Aprilia came to visit me once. It wasn't something that interested me very much.”
