MotoGP: Alex Marquez: "This test in Qatar was a real disaster."

"Objectively, this test was a disaster," Alex Marquez said. The reigning Moto2 champion finished the second 2020 test session on the Honda in second-to-last place only ahead of the Aprilia tester, Bradley Smith. The Honda seemed even more complex to drive than last season's, and now it'll have to run for cover and invent something for the start of the season.

“After the Sepang tests, I was quite happy because the bike had worked well while, after these three days in Qatar, I'm not. Objectively, it was a disaster. I improved something, but I'm far from others, and I don't feel fast. We have to find a solution if I want to be competitive in the race."

Can it be a track problem? Losail could amplify Honda's problems.

“This is certainly not one of the best circuits for us, but seeing these differences between Sepang and here is quite strange. There are certainly differences in grip and temperature, and we know that the bike can do better on other circuits."

What was your program for day?

"I tried to do a lot of laps. I did more or less 40, trying to improve my pace. All the Honda had problems, even Marc, but now we have to wait for the race to understand our real potential. I couldn't even get a time attack."

Are you still optimistic about the championship?

“I'm always optimistic. I must be. But I have to say that these tests did not go as I hoped. The whole team knows where we are, and we have to continue to work."

Marc yesterday called the Honda 2020 a critical bike when pushing. In your opinion, what's the real problem of the RC-213V?

“The problem with the bike is its character. It was much better in Sepang, but we have to evaluate it based on these tests. Today we found solutions to our problems."

Did you make a comparison?

“We're both very busy these days. We talked a bit yesterday about the bike's problems."
