MotoGP, Work in progress in Austin: 40% of the track resurfaced

Last year, the MotoGP riders had found a nasty surprise waiting for them when they arrived in Austin. The Circuit of the Americas is one of the tracks that riders share with Formula 1 drivers, which means living with the holes created by race cars when braking and accelerating.

In 2018, the GP organizers had promised to intervene, but the solution they tested had only ended up making things worse. In fact, an attempt had been made to level the holes in the asphalt, but the situation had only worsened, as the riders had noticed.

This time, the COTA should be in tip top shape when the MotoGP arrives there on April 5th. In fact, in the past few weeks, work has begun for resurfacing the asphalt of the track by 40%.

As you can see in the photo above (published on Twitter by Tim Wood F1), they finally decided to intervene at the root of the problem, by replacing the old asphalt.

The work involved Turns 1,2, 9, and from 16 to 19, in addition to the return straight. The riders will be the ones who'll decide if the Austin circuit now has the asphalt it deserves.
