MotoGP, Marc Marquez hard at work to get back in shape for Sepang test

MotoGP: Marc Marquez hard at work to get back in shape for Sepang test

For a second consecutive winter Marc Marquez will line up for the first test of the season, at Sepang (Malaysia) from 7 to 9 February, not yet perfectly fit.

At the end of the last world championship, in fact, the multi-world champion opted for surgery on his right shoulder which, albeit not so bad as the left one operated on previously, was starting to give him problems.

"The operation went well - Dr. Mir assured him after the surgery - The most difficult decision to take was for surgery because the injury was not as bad as the one in his left shoulder last year. After the crash in the Jerez tests he was convinced to do so in order to avoid the risk of having to have an operation during the season".

"Rehabilitation will begin immediately and Marc will spend a winter very similar to that of last year and will have to give up his holidays”, continued Mir. “As a result, we think that the recovery time will be slightly shorter than one year ago".

The recovery, judging from what Marquez himself showed us in the photo published on Twitter, has started and as always in cases like this, it begins by gradually using elastic bands instead of weights. However, Marc will almost certainly not be 100% fit at Sepang. And his opponents will have to take this into account.

“It is difficult to evaluate,” commented Mir. “I think he will be ready for the Sepang test, even if he is not at 100%, but what we need to do is to ensure that, even if not for the tests, he starts the championship as healed as possible. We are also used to recovery periods for normal people with this kind of injury being four months. The riders are used to reducing them almost to half.”
