MotoGP: Zarco: "I didn't sign with Avintia but with Ducati."

There's still no official statement, but we're now sure that Johann Zarco will race next year with the colors of the Avintia team riding a Ducati Desmosedici GP19, the version used by the official riders this year.

This has been a complicated year for Johann: first his divorce from KTM, then the hope of racing for Honda, even after the 3 Grand Prixs, as a replacement for Nakagami, but that door closed and, in the end, the Ducati option was the only possible way to remain in the MotoGP.

The agreement has been reached, and it was Zarco himself who talked about it in an interview with Moto Journal.

"Gigi Dall'Igna told me that I could trust him, and this made me decide to sign with Avintia for next year," explained the French rider, who never hid that he had some qualms with the Spanish team.

"While I still doubted the capabilities of the Avintia team, I went to see my former chief mechanic, Massimo Branchini," Johann continued. "Massimo told me to trust Gigi. Dall'Igna will find me a good chief mechanic."

Ducati Corse's general manager played a fundamental role in convincing Zarco, who sees a closer relationship with the parent company than with the team with which he'll be racing.

"I don't think I signed with Avintia but with Ducati," he wanted to specify. "My goal for 2020 is to always remain in the top 10, then the top 7 and join the official team in 2021."

Not a simple task.
