MotoGP, Vinales: "The M1 is perfect, I just have to make the most of it"

"I'm already thinking about my race strategy: to push early on and try to break away. I really like riding at Phillip Island"

MotoGP: Vinales: "The M1 is perfect, I just have to make the most of it"

Dominating proceedings at Phillip Island today was Maverick Vinale. First in the wet (a second and a half ahead of Miller) and first in the dry (half a second quicker than Dovizioso): the winner of last year's Australian GP has started out on the right foot.

Right now, only Marquez seems to be able to match his level, the Yamaha rider aiming high.

“The M1 is working perfectly, I immediately found a good set-up in both conditions. When things go like this, all you need to do is put in some laps to understand how to harness the bike's full potential.

Maverick knows he's in with a good chance and, while his rivals continue to ponder which tyre to use or how to modify the bike, he is already focused on his strategy for Sunday.

The important thing will be to start from the front row - his first goal - Then I'll push right away, because it's important to keep out of any chaos, something we often see early on at this track. The best thing would be to break away, but if I can't do that then I'll have to stay calm and be patient.

Vinales knows it's all in his hands.

Now it's me who has to improve. I have to understand that the M1 needs and adapt. I have clear ideas about the tyres, but I still have room to improve through the second sector”.

Winning isn't just a dream, but a concrete goal and Maverick doesn0t want to waste this opportunity, as he really likes Phillip Island.

“Riding here is always a pleasure, and when you're fast even more so" he concludes.
