Two is the magic number for Marquez in Thailand. He needs to score just 2 points over Dovizioso to lift his 8th world title trophy at Buriram, his sixth MotoGP title. The history at the Chang International Circuit is short, the first edition of the GP playing out last year with the win (as well as pole position and the fastest lap) going to Marc.

It wasn't all simple though, as Andrea put up a good fight, only giving up at the last corner, and the Yamahas of Vinales and Rossi also proving competitive. Finishing ahead of Dovi might not be a given, but it's also true that Marquez's 98-point lead will allow him to manage the race as he sees fit, the only risk being to postpone the celebration by a couple of weeks.

The champion's batteries are fully charged following a home win though.

"We had a great weekend in Aragon and it was a delight to win in front of the home crowd. I want to carry this confidence and energy to Thailand so we can put in a strong weekend" he explains.

This will help as Marc faces his first match point, though the Spaniard is trying not to think too much about it.

"Our approach doesn’t change even with the circumstances, we will do our work to be as strong as possible come Sunday. Last year we had a very exciting race here in Thailand so hopefully we can put on another good show for the fans.”

Jorge Lorenzo: "I need to consolidate my potential"

Lorenzo has very different goals. He doesn't have great memories of Buriram, as he crashed in practice last year, fracturing his wrist, the first in a series of injuries for the Majorcan. This year, he comes to Thailand with high hopes, keen too improve both his confidence on the bike and his results.

Last year I did not have the best weekend in Thailand with a big crash ruling me out of the race. I am looking forward to completing the race there and we saw from Marc last year that the RC213V is strong at this circuit. After the difficult race in Aragon, I am hoping we can have a good weekend. During practice we showed that our pace is getting better and delivering on this potential is our objective for Thailand.”
