MotoGP, Pernat: “Marquez won at Misano thanks to Rossi"

"Without Saturday's skirmish, he would have lost again. In Ducati, the hunt for Quartararo or Vinales for 2021 has already begun. Zarco is waiting for Lorenzo or Crutchlow to retire for next year"

Marc Marquez on the throne at Misano! After second-place finishes in both Austria and the UK, the Spaniard is back in control, triumphing over another who wants to be a phenomenon, or rather Fabio Quartararo. A Spanish/French podium, on which there was no room for Italians on their home turf.

Misano leaves a bitter aftertaste for Valentino Rossi, forced to settle for fourth, and also Andrea Dovizioso, who played the part of spectator. And what about Danilo Petrucci, who has dropped off the radar since Sachsenring.

This is what happened at Misano in the words of our own Carlo Pernat.

It it wasn't for that skirmish between Rossi and Marquez on Saturday afternoon, Marc would have lost for the third consecutive time, finishing second again. After what happened in qualifying, Marquez wanted to answer with his actions and did just that. He was angry, he didn't sleep the night before the race and on Sunday he went out to win. Only positive words for Quartararo, a phenomenon who has overtaken Vinales in the Yamaha hierarchy, taking the role of first rider. Maverick is lacking in concentration and lost five seconds when Marc passed him, only getting back in the mix in the final stages. This is what he's missing in terms of the title fight. I don't know what's happening in his head to be honest".

The Misano outcome will have consequences inside the various teams.

"The hierarchies have changed, with Quartararo followed by Vinales, then Rossi and Morbidelli. The same goes for Honda. I don't think Zarco turned down a 2 million contract for no reason, I think he's waiting for either  Lorenzo or Crutchlow to retire. I think HRC has already reassured him".

Pernat is not optimistic about Jorge.

"I fear that Jorge won't get back into shape on the Honda following his injury, while Cal already risked not racing last year. I think Zarco has done what he's done to move to Honda. In Ducati, there'll be a team change for 2021. Dovi has done a lot, has given his all, even if the relations with Dall'Igna aren't the best. In two years the hunt for Quartararo or Vinales will be on, one of the two destined for Ducati. A special mention for Valentino, to whom i give a gold medal after his fourth place, which is akin to a win against riders young enough to be his kids . Come mid-2020 he'll decide on his future and Yamaha will have to prepare a soft exit for him, perhaps as a manager. It will come down to his competitiveness, though he'll never leave Yamaha".

"Lastly, I can't not mention the decision made by race direction. Dalla Porta was penalised for having exceeded the track limit, Fernandez wasn't. This is wrong, unfair for both Dalla Porta and Di Giannantonio. Let's not forget that Lorenzo is fighting for the title, while Fabio was chasing his first win" concludes Pernat.
