SBK: Bautista proves Ciabatti wrong: "I didn't leave for the money."

The action on the track ended today in Portimao, but the market quivers and Alvaro Bautista cannot escape the questions relating to his future. The Spanish rider has long been associated with Honda for next year, but the lack of an official status, and n.19's words, still leave a big question mark.

"I did't leave Ducati for the money," said Alvaro. It's a question of motivation. Certainly, the current challenge motivated me, but where I'll be next year, could be another interesting challenge for my future. Everyone says I'll be going to Honda, but all I said was that they made me an offer. I signed up with a team, but I can't say which one. Will I remain in SBK? There are many possibilities."

Alvaro delves into the question, with a smile on his lips, but without missing a beat.

"Sometimes in life, you have to make important decisions, like moving to the SBK. I haven't made a crazy decision for next year. I'll explain everything once it's official. Before Magny Cours or, during that weekend, I'll reveal everything."

However, there is also talk about what happened on the track, with Alvaro who, despite his not being in perfect physical condition, finished second behind Jonathan Rea.

"I didn't do many laps today, but I certainly felt better than the tests, even though I'm not at my best yet, and I have to be careful. Tomorrow morning will be crucial because I'll understand my conditions. In the tests, the problem arose on the second day, so tomorrow I'll know how I am. However, this injury is worse than a broken bone because, in that case, you get surgery and recover while, in this case, you need time."

The objective is however clear: give it his all to keep this championship alive.

"This track is one of the most difficult on the calendar because you never have time to rest. You always have to work a lot on the bike. However, I don't have many chances to recover points, so I have to give it my all and hope that things go better. I don't have to prove to anyone that I was wrong. I just want to fight for the title until the end."

In conclusion, Alvaro also takes a step back, reflecting on how the season has been so far and on those key moments that have overturned the fate of the fight for the title.

"I made some changes on the bike in some races, like Misano or Jerez, but we often kept a "Classic" set-up: the falls happened for several reasons, for example, at Donington, the wet tarmac was an obstacle while, I was unlucky in Laguna. For the last four races, we'll maintain a base, changing several details, from track to track.
