While for some, testing is just a chance to get miles under their belts, for Valentino Rossi and Yamaha the two-day Misano test is more than important. It is in fact a last chance to find the way, so that #46 can complete a positive season finale and make a strong start to 2020. There are no shortage of new parts to test at the Italian track, starting with the second engine specification in preparation for next year.

“We've tested the engine together with the 2020 prototype, it was important to start working on this from Brno because we're making small steps but we need more, the step forward is not as big as we need. We didn't focus on that all day, as in the afternoon we worked with the current bikes in preparation for this year's remaining races”.

Another important new part is the carbon swingarm, which #46 appears to appreciate.

“i've finally tested it and got on quite well. I like a very stable bike at the rear and this swingarm helps. I'll continue to use it tomorrow and if I like it, I don't think we'll have trouble using it already during the next races”.

All in all, a positive first day, also considering the lap times, the Italian placing fifth having completed 41 laps during the afternoon. I'm in the top five and basically close so I'm pleased, it's been a good day in that respect too”.

The only setback was the crash at turn 14, the most criticised point of the track considering the crashes seen today.“I put in new tyres and was pushing but unfortunately I braked too late and crashed. Nothing serious anyway, just a small crash”.

Now attention turns to tomorrow, when the focus will still be very much on 2019. "I think we'll continue to work on our current bikes, to improve already from the next race”.
