MotoGP, Pernat: “Lorenzo's return to Ducati would have been smart”

Dovi-Marquez: them again. The Austrian Grand Prix proved pretty spectacular, the Italian and the Spaniard caught up in a hard-fought duel. One that only came to an end at the final corner, when the Ducati rider made a decisive move on the Honda man. We might have guessed we'd be in for a treat, the Red Bull Ring always making for a great show since its return to the world championship calendar.

In addition to the track action, the market kept everyone talking, with the KTM-Zarco split and rumours of a possible return of Jorge Lorenzo in Ducati. Here's what went on at the latest round in the words of our Carlo Pernat.

“When you combine talent, cold-heartedness and a healthy dose of madness, you become a phenomenon. Three necessary things, with Dovizioso proving phenomenal at the Red Bull Ring. It's not the first time he's beaten Marquez in this way. It's that dose of madness that Andrea needs at all times, as he entered the final turn it's as if he said was saying to Marc: “Coming through, get out of the way”. This is Marquez's way of riding and it needs to become Dovi's too. Then, a word about Dall’igna. Everyone is saying that the Ducati doesn't turn, but in Austria it turned very well, despite it being a favourable track. Gigi reached out to Lorenzo, he did well, but it didn't work out because it didn't feel right to Jorge. This doesn't play in Lorenzo's favour, as I would have made the move. It would have been a smart move, and there will be some problems with Miller, even if he continues his adventure in Pramac. The negative note this weekend was Yamaha, despite Rossi's fourth place finish. The ball is in Yamaha's court and right now it's looking negative in comparison with Ducati and Honda,  the bike 10 km/h slower along the straight. Either Yamaha needs to give its riders, Rossi, Vinales and Quartararo, not forgetting Morbidelli, a competitive bike, closer to the Honda and Ducati in terms of its competitiveness, or the situation remains the same as it is now. Rins is also disappointing me, his two crashes have affected him mentally and he's struggling to recover. Lastly, Aprilia. I'm sorry to see them like this, the bike almost looks like a CRT. Rather than moving forward, they're going backwards. A revolution is required or they might as well do something else. A final mention goes to the Moto3 riders. After the changes made to the qualifying regulations with Q1 and Q2, managers should put a clause in their contracts. Those who wait should pay a 30,000 euro fine, because what we saw on Saturday was undignified.”
