It turned into a nightmare weekend for Ducati. Not only at the Sachsenring, where Dovizioso and Petrucci had to bow to the supremacy of Marc Marquez, but also at Donington, where Alvaro Bautista lost the championship lead.
A weekend that leaves a bitter taste for the Aruba rider, who now finds himself 24 points behind Johnny Rea.
“It was hard and I found myself fighting with the V4 – starts Bautista - I struggled on Friday, and then tried to stick with the frontrunners come Sunday. I tried to do my best in both races but physically I was shattered just trying to keep the bike straight along the straight”.
Alvaro goes on.
“The bike was moving a lot, both in the morning and the afternoon, and I didn't have the right stability when accelerating out of the turns. That aside, the podium is definitely a good result".
Yet Alvaro leaves Donington 24 points from the new leader.
“This is racing, anything can happen. We need to push to the max in every races. We were strong at Misano and Jerez while here I struggled. I will be interesting to try and catch up during the next races, and improve on our weak points”.
Bautista knows it won't be easy.
“This isn't MotoGP, where you can use different components during testing or the weekends. We know the package we have and so know what we need to focus on. Unfortuantely the setting was a problem at Donington and that conditioned our entire weekend".
The Ducati rider remains positive.
“This weekend was tough but we need to continue to work and try to remain positive, because the championship is not over”.
The next round is in just six days, at Laguna Seca.
“The track isn't the best for our bike, as there is some undulation. I don't want to make any predictions, we'll see what happens and work out what to do as a result”.
