MotoGP: Quartararo: "I love riding with the soft tyre, it's so much fun"

El Diablo Quartararo and his Yamaha are always up front battling with the best. On Friday at the Sachsenring the Frenchman's M1 was in fact the quickest on track, though he found himself dealing with the Nakagami on the Honda in the final stages, who caused him to lose time.

Despite the trafiic on track though, the SIC flagbearer is third behind Marquez and Rins.

It's been a positive day - begins Fabio - I tested all the tyres and had a good impression, though I didn't make the most of the soft. This is a special track and the fact the turns are all left-handers is a physical benefit compared to Assen, where I was struggling more with my arm. I have to say that the Sachsenring is not one of my favourite's though”.

King Marquez once again leads the way.

“I wasn't able to follow him today, also because I preferred to focus on what I was doing during practice. This is a strange track, where passing is difficult. Marc stayed out on the same tyre this morning, while I changed it. As I said, I prefer to concentrate on myself, as this is my first time with the MotoGP in Germany and so I need to understand the data to try and improve”.

Attention now turns to Saturday.

i honestly don't know what path to take, the aim is to be in Q2 of course and then make the right decision for that second qualifying. I need to understand what to do in terms of tyres, though I must say both the medium and hard give me confidence.

In the final stages of the session, Quartararo told Nakagami where to go when the Japanese rider slowed him down.

At the end, I came across many riders ahead of me. Maybe my reaction with Nakagami was over the top but unfortunetely in four laps, I didn't get one right, but these things happen. Aside from that, Friday has been good, but I need to pay attention to rear tyre management”.

Tyres are the hot topic this weekend.

When we put in the soft  tyre, that's the most enjoyable part of the day for me. I couldn't wait to get out and see how competitive I was”.

Then a word on his M1, the fastest Yamaha on track today.

“The Yamaha is strong everywhere in my opinion (he smiles). It's true that we struggle on the straight, but in all other areas, like the turns, it's competitive”.

His final comments regards Moto E.

“unfortunately I wasn't able to watch it today. It will be interesting to follow it tomorrow, when riders qualify by completing just one fast lap”.
