The show has begun in Catalonia. The first practice session has ended, under an overcast sky, with rear medium tires and soft front ones for every rider, looking at the first time results and the first indications on the set-up.

The leader of the championship, Marc Marquez, is in control. '1'40"692 was his time, which he reached on a pair of soft tires mounted on the final lap. A different choice than his usual, since he was used to working more on the race than on the single lap in the first rounds.

At 0.111s from the Spanish rider was Fabio Quartararo, followed by Maverick Vinales. The Yamaha confirms itself as being fast on a single lap, just like in Mugello, also thanks to the weather conditions. But the true potential of the M1 remains a puzzle that only the race can solve.

4th place for the first Italian Ducati rider, Andrea Dovizioso (+0.338), far ahead of his teammate, Danilo Petrucci, who closed a difficult first round in 18th position, almost a second from the top. Back to the rankings: Nakagami is 5th ahead of Miller and Rins.

Positive round for Franco Morbidelli, 8th ahead of Valentino Rossi. N.46 solved an intricate situation at the last pass, reducing the gap from the top to less than half a second and entering momentarily in the top ten, closed in by Aleix's Espargaro's Aprilia.

Who had more than one eye staring at him was Jorge Lorenzo, who finished 17th at almost a second. The rider from Mallorca showed up on the track (first) with a new tank, modified to have more support during braking and leaning that, for the moment, didn't give results. Johann Zarco (13th) also brought some innovations to the track with his new carbon swingarm. Syahrin closed the ranking, preceded by the two wild cards, Guintoli and Smith.
