Andrea Dovizioso continued to build confidence with his Audi Rs5 during FP 2 at Misano. The Italian was able to improve significantly on his morning's best time, stopping the clock on an encouraging 1'28,488 to finish just 1.8 seconds from the Friday's leader Wittmann. Dovizioso finished 16th but his step forward yesterday saw him shave almost 1.5 seconds off his earlier time.

The Ducati rider is improving with every exit and was pleased to finish the session less then half a second from a certain Paul Di Resta, former F1 driver and considered by many to be one of the major talents of recent years. A more than satisfactory performance for Dovi then, who at this point will try to improve further and reach the top ten. It looks like he'd need to improve by another second to be able to aim for that, but his growth so far suggests that this might not be out of the question for Dovizioso.

The only setback came when he ran off track at the end of the session, when drivers were lining up to practice the start. As Dovizioso took to the straight, his Audi made a violent swerve to the right, forcing him to briefly leave the track in front of the pitwall. Dovi, in trying to correct what was probably a slide, perhaps exaggerated, ending up in the run-off area, but luckily at low speed meaning that he and his vehicle suffered no consequences. Andrea then completed the start with excellent acceleration, as he had done also in the morning.

Dovizioso now just need to work and study the data along with the Audi engineers, to see if there's a way to find the aforementioned extra second. The qualifying race gets underway at 10:20 this morning.
