There is one Ducati on the podium at Austin. Not that of Andrea Dovizioso, and not that of Danilo Petrucci either. We're talking about the red bike belonging to Jack Miller, who finished third behind Rins and Rossi. The Pramac rider's performance in Texas can only be a confidence boost.
“I was able to start well and set a good pace - starts Jack – it wasn't easy, particularly having chosen the soft tyres. I knew I'd suffer in the final stages as a result. The problem was that, having not had Saturday's practice, we weren't able to have a really clear idea”.
Miller preferred to opt for the soft, while Marquez went with the medium.
“It could have worked, but I wasn't convinced. Marc used it, but I think he asked too much of it at the start, like Crutchlow too, both crashed in fact. It wasn't easy with the tyres at a track like this, especially in terms of wear. When I got to the end I was over the limit and had to defend myself from Dovizioso”.
Difficulties aside, Jack is all smiles on the podium.
“i was missing the podium champagne and think I'll drink another one this evening, I've lost my voice. Joking aside, I can only be pleased with this result. You all know what happened in Qatar, then we came close to the podium in Argentina. We worked hard to improve over the winter and I adore the Ducati. I'm here to secure a place on the factory team."
Despite his riding style, Miller also suffered with the dips.
“I have a particular style as you know, I like to brake hard and am aggressive, but the track is a problem. At turn 2 I was really suffering, something needs to be done for next year. The bike tended to shake through turn 1”.
Miller leaves Austin with a third place finish on a day Rins rules supreme.
“I think he did so well and deserved this win. Suzuki is working really well and the results are clear”.
