Suzuki's investment with Alex Rins is paying off, and the Spaniard seems ready to play a leading role this season. The best time on the second day of testing in Qatar is proof of this, after his convincing performance in Sepang.

Needless to say, Alex seems ready for the race.

"Yes, I could race tomorrow," he smiles. "At Sepang, we tried a lot of material, and here we saw that it worked, but the important thing is that we proceeding step-by-step.  It's important to have clear ideas before taking off, and I think the bike is better than last year, without changing too many things. Overall, I'm happy."

Are you ready to race and even win?
"
We had a good season final in 2018, and, of course, my goal is to win.  But we have keep calm because everyone wants to win in the first race. If we don't succeed, nothing’will happen, there'll be another 18 to try."

How did the GSX-RR change this winter?
"The bike has improved a bit in all areas, starting from stability when braking. That's where we used to suffer the most, and I pushed on this point. We've also made progress in maximum speed."

What is your plan for the last day of testing?
"I think everyone will try to give their best tomorrow in the flying lap, and I can certainly improve my time.  But the important thing is to be competitive on the pace, and I'll go through a race simulation to understand what my level is."
