MotoGP, Doctor Mir: "Lorenzo riding at the Qatar test? He can do it"

MotoGP: Doctor Mir: "Lorenzo riding at the Qatar test? He can do it"

Yesterday, Jorge Lorenzo underwent surgery on his fractured scaphoid, an injury he sustained while training at the dirt track. The operation was carried out by doctor Xavier Mir in Barcelona. The Spanish doctor, who often works with the injured riders, told motogp.com how the operation went and what kind of recovery time the Majorcan faces.

“The scaphoid is not an easy bone to fix and this is why we operate, not only on athletes, with a minimally invasive technique - comments Mir - This means fixing the fracture with a specific screw that allows for rehabilitation to begin ten days later, without the operation it would take several months to recover fully”.

The fact that Lorenzo had already hurt the same wrist several months ago in Thailand has no bearing on this fracture.

It's simply the same wrist, Lorenzo having previously injured the radius and the ligament closest to the scaphoid. This new fracture has nothing to do with the previous injuries" confirms the doctor.

For a rider, the most important thing is to be back on the bike as soon as possible, and Mir is cautiously optimistic in this case.

“The wrist must remain immobilised for four days, after which he can begin light rehabilitation at home in Lugano - he explains - After ten days we will see him again and the idea is that, from that point, Jorge can begin more intense rehab so as to be able to recover in time for the Qatar test, failing that he'll be ready for the first race”.
