There was one Yamaha that showed the other bikes exactly how it's done at Valencia. Namely, that of Maverick Vinales, who stopped the clock on 1’30”757 to set Wednesday's quickest time. The Spaniard couldn't have hoped for more, having also spent time testing new engines brought to the track by the Japanese manufacturer.

“unfortunately I wasn't able to test a great deal today, due to a lack of time. We had to sort a few things out and, with regard to the engine, it's still too aggressive. We're evaluating various material, riding with the race set-up.

Maverick is nevertheless looking very calm.

“It's been a positive day, we need to take some steps forward though, also because there is still a lot to do. After Jerez, we will decide which engine to go with. I think we're on the right path, but we need to focus on riding style too. We'll be back on track at Jerez next week and I' m sure the updates will help us”.

His final comment regards the new tyre that Michelin provided for the test.

“I tested it, but it appeared to offer less grip. I don't think that's very positive for us”.
