MotoGP: Dovizioso: “This time it won't just be a battle with Márquez”

There is a Ducati ahead of the rest on Friday in Buriram. It is Andrea Dovizioso’s, protagonist of a 1’31”090 that took him into first place. Despite the leadership, the Italian is keeping his guard up since the competition is fierce.

“This morning, Marc did not use the new tyre and right now he is the fastest one – Andrea began – The values on the field are still unclear, plus no one has the situation under control in terms of wear and tyre choice. The work done is positive, but we’ll see on Saturday.”

Dovizioso then went into detail.

“Buriram is a very complicated and short track – he analysed – The first part can be good for us and then from the middle to the end it is not. On this track there isn’t much difference, plus the low grip levels the playing field even more.”

But don’t dare compare it to the Red Bull Ring.

“It is nothing like it and I don’t understand why people keep making comparisons like that – he replied – Austria is very fast and there are a lot of acceleration points from low speeds, whereas here there are several long turns where we are struggling, especially with pace. You can’t just open up the throttle, you have to flow through them.”

Dovizioso makes no bones about his concerns, but he prefers to be positive.

“I expected to be more competitive, but we’ll wait to see what situations we find on Saturday – he said – In the afternoon, we managed to improve a lot and that is a positive aspect. From a technical point of view, it is nothing strange to struggle on these turns.

Looking at the standings, it promises to be a close battle.

“I would like it if it were a battle just with Marc like in Aragón – revealed the Ducati rider – but I am convinced that there will be a lot of other riders, since we are all very close. Besides Marc, the situation is not clear yet.”

According to Dovizioso, there will be plenty of contenders for the win.

This is a Suzuki and Yamaha track since it flows a lot and they are the best in that area. I expect to see further steps forward, especially from Suzuki during Saturday and Sunday.”

Attention then shifted to Lorenzo’s crash on turn 3.

“I don’t know the details and I didn’t ask – he pointed out – His crash was bad, but it also went well. I imagine that he will certainly be in pain and his wrist will be hurting, but only he can decide whether or not to race. From what I know, there are no risks, but it won’t be easy.”

In the end, the Majorcan’s crash was due to a technical problem. However, Dovizioso prefers not to think about it.

“To be honest, I didn’t even consider that it might be a problem with the bike. If you’re too rational, you don’t race. Among other things, at that moment I had to put on the tyre and do the time, because if not, I would have risked not making it into the top ten.”
