This was my worst race since I’ve been racing with Yamaha”, Maverick Viñales did not beat around the bush describing the Aragón race, where he finished 10th. The Spaniard had saved himself in qualifying and in FP4 he seemed to be able to maintain a decent pace, but all hope vanished when the red lights went out at the start.

What didn’t work on the bike? We are doing badly in all areas. I can’t be more specific. Even the satellite bikes do better than ours” he explained.

How do you feel right now?
I am very disappointed and I don’t have a lot to say. I put forth a lot of effort and we worked hard, but it went how it went. Now I just want to forget this race, relax for a few days and start fresh in Thailand.”

Was it not possible to do any more?
I tried to push, but I wasn’t even able to stay on the track – I kept going wide. When I saw Valentino ahead of me, I tried to get close and the only result was that I destroyed the tyres. We tried to change the bike for the race, but nothing worked. In the final laps, the electronics were a total disaster: the rear slid around all over the place.”

You came to Yamaha less than two years ago with the goal of winning the World Championship…
That goal is lost right now and I don’t want to set any others for myself. I will simply focus on doing my best in every race, because I don’t want to create false expectations for myself. For example, in the tests here in Aragón, with a very dirty track, I was able to lap in the low 1’49”s, whereas today I was much slower. I fooled myself.

Rossi said that he has not been informed of Yamaha’s plans for the future…
You need to speak with Meregalli about those things. I just want to work as best I can with the guys in my garage and provide the best indications possible.

What do you expect from Thailand?
I the tests I did not do well. We’ll see.”
