Undoubtedly, this edition of the Grand Prix if Misano was scarce on satisfaction for Andrea Iannone and his Suzuki. Unlike what his teammate Alex Rins did, fourth over the line after an outstanding race, the spoils taken by The Maniac amount to a measly eighth place. It’s a result that would have been even worse if Lorenzo hadn’t crashed less than two laps before the chequered flag came out.

The problems in braking that had afflicted Iannone’s Suzuki during free practice and qualifying were not solved by the mechanics in the garage for the race, and Andrea was forced to ride defensively, trying to achieve the best possible result in the objectively less-than-encouraging technical situation.

“I knew that it would be difficult - Andrea explained - because when you start from behind, you struggle to recover with this bike.”

In the past, you have ridden some outstanding comebacks. What was lacking today for an attempt to stay with the pack of riders ahead of you?

“These types of problems happen especially because I am unable to be effective in braking and I lost a lot of time overtaking. It took me too long first to overtake Morbidelli and Petrucci. Then, when I manage to get past them, I also began to recover on Viñales, Pedrosa and Rossi.”

So, there is something salvageable from this GP.

“That was a good stage of the race, but when I went wide on turn ten - The Maniac analysed - it cost me about a second and a half. Afterward, I began to recover. I was fast and I had a good pace. I even arrived at 4 tenths from Vale, but it wasn’t enough to attempt an attack in the finale. I was still too far away.”

The next round is Aragón, a track where you have tested and where you are very strong.

“Yes, now we head to Aragón where we have tested, but I didn’t complete the testing schedule because I had some back problems. I hope that it is a positive track for us and we’ll certainly try to do better than we did today.”
