MotoGP: Crutchlow: This podium rewards our hard work

Fortune favours the brave and in Cal Crutchlow’s case, the saying truly hits the mark. In fact, the English rider demonstrated good speed all weekend, taking the sixth spot on the starting grid and earning the fourth-place position in the race. Then came Lorenzo’s mistake, with Cal ready to exploit it for his second podium of the season. “I am very excited about this resultCal began – since it confirms our hard work this weekend, plus I am happy to have done it for the team’s home race. I thought that there would be a group of seven riders battling for the podium, but that’s not how it went.”

Cal makes no secret of the good sensations he had in the saddle even ahead of the race, which he managed with great intelligence.

“We are fast right now and we capitalised on that. Yesterday I made a mistake, but I was feeling good. I knew I could stay with the top five and I would even have been satisfied with fourth place. I started slowly, knowing that the hard tyre on the front would help me in the finale. At the mid-race point I pushed, but not to the limit, whereas at the end I was managing without pressure. My best season? I don’t know. I certainly think that I am riding better than ever, and I’ll do whatever it takes to attack.”

The number 35 rider knows the Honda very well, plus he is a resource for the Japanese manufacturer in this intense duel with Ducati.

“The bike has improved this year compared to last. We are fast and competitive on all the tracks. We have improved in braking and in terms of the engine, whereas we suffer in acceleration, so we often try to recover what we lose coming out of the turn by braking hard on the next one.”
