He is undoubtedly one of the surprises of the day. Indeed, because the riders who went straight through to Q2 included Franco Morbidelli as well. Tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 local time, the Roman from Tavullia will start from the twelfth spot on the grid with a crystal-clear objective.

It was a nice day and I am happy with the work we did – Franco began – I knew that our level would be better than in other races and in the end, it was. Obviously, we still have tomorrow ahead of us, where we will need to figure out how to work with the setup and then there is tyre selection.

Among other things, Morbidelli also had to deal with a crash.

I didn’t have any new tyres left for the front – he recalled – and it was a pity. I tried to push anyway, but I ended up in the gravel. Unfortunately, going into Q2 we didn’t have any more hard tyres available to us.”

The Marc VDS rider’s attention then shifted to performance.

This year, the Honda seems weaker in the braking sections and stronger in acceleration – he analysed – Maybe I exploited this aspect too much. The goal for Sunday is to finish in the top ten – he added – We can try because we have the speed to do it, as well as the starting position.”

At Misano, Morbidelli is certainly not lacking in confidence.

“This is my track, plus I was able to ride in the August tests – he reminded – It was a big help. I think that the lap I did in Q1 was the fastest lap I’ve done with the Honda. Here at Misano there are not many straights, so we suffer less in terms of speed.”
