MotoGP, Rabat to see Dr Mir on Thursday in Barcelona

Surgery in Coventry has been a success, and the Spaniard will visit the Dexeus clinic where he will begin his rehabilitation

After the crash, the pain, and immediate surgery at Coventry hospital, it's now time for Tito Rabat to start thinking about his rehabilitation programme and subsequent return to the track. The Spanish Team Ducati Avintia rider has been put back on his feet in record time by doctors at the English hospital, as proved by photos his father sent to Paolo Ciabatti that were then published by Sky Sport.

A triple break to the right leg could have involved a very long recovery time but seeing Tito already on his feet so soon after surgery makes us think that he might be back in action sooner than we initially expected. Rabat will be transported to Barcelona on Thursday and will head to Doctor Mir's Dexeus clinic, where the physical problems of many riders have been put right in the past.

Presumably, the rider will not undergo any further surgery. He is more likely to put together a plan, on the advice of Doctor Mir, which will allow him to get back on track as soon as possible. The Misano and Aragon rounds are perhaps out of reach, but a return in time for the Buriram round is plausible. This is closely followed by the Motegi, Phillip Island and Sepang triple-header.

All the riders have sent messages of support to the rider over the weekend, but the image that Marc Marquez posted on his Instagram profile is of particular significance. The photo, taken at the end of 2014, show Marc, brother Alex and Tito celebrating their respective title wins across the three categories. At that time, the trio would often train together.
