Sunday came to a controversial close at Silverstone, with Dovizioso claiming that he wasn't told about the riders meeting in which a decision was taken as to whether to race or not. Andrea's absence was in fact quite strange, the Italian a regular attender of Safety Commission meetings.
Loris Capirossi, talking on Italian Radio24 show Tutti Convocati, admits: “I was out on track to inspect the conditions, I was called and asked to go to IRTA, but I didn't know whether the riders had been summoned. They all talked to each other and put this meeting together. It was a mistake not to listen to all of them and then take a decision all together. They were all in agreement but a mistake was made, IRTA should have taken responsibility for calling all the riders”.
The championship's safety rep thus agrees with Ducati sporting director Paolo Ciabatti.
"I'm sorry for the controversy with Capirossi, but the facts are clear - explained Ciabatti - No emergency Safety Commission meeting was called. Certain riders, I think Espargarò and Pedrosa, took it upon themselves to go to IRTA and then call other riders. Lorenzo was informed by his manager, who is also Espargarò's manager. Marquez told me that he went because he saw others going, so they came together autonomously with anyone informing them all. In a situation like this, it would have been better to call an emergency Safety Commission meeting, informing team managers and telling them the riders were needed in order to make a decision. That's how it went, the situation got out of hand”.
