SBK: Drama for Sykes: he will miss the test due to a ruptured fibular ligament

It was an opportunity to get back on his ZX-10RR, but instead Tom Sykes had been forced to wave the white flag. The British rider will not take part in the two-day test session taking place at Portimao on Thursday and Friday. Having suffered an accident while training last week, the Kawasaki rider has had to admit defeat.

The injury sustained by #66 is more serious than first thought and he has in fact ruptured the anterior fibular talus ligament and is suffering bone delamination in the insertion of the ligament in the fibula bone. Tom has already begun his recovery, though his participation in the Portuguese race weekend, set to take place mid-September, is in doubt.  “I have been doing a lot of fitness training during the break and the results were very good. I was feeling very strong - stated Sykes - It is a shame to miss this test because Marcel and the boys had a good programme, so that we could finish the season strongly. The focus now is to try and be fit for the next race.”

Kawasaki will thus test at Portimao with Rea alone.
