MotoGP: Dovizioso: "It's right to be disappointed"

Third place at the Red Bull Ring is a bitter pill for Dovizioso to swallow, his face saying it all post-race. The days when a podium was celebrated like a win are long gone and the fact that he was unable to cross wheels with Lorenzo and Marquez weighs heavily on Andrea.

When you can do more but don't succeed, it's normal to be annoyed. It came down to small details that didn't allow me to be as competitive as I thought. Right from the start, I wasn't able to get into the right position, after Marquez got past me early on I was in sixth, I quickly got back up to third and the race started there”.

With Marc putting the pressure on.

I didn't expect him to be so aggressive, at first I was worried but after a few laps I realised that he wasn't faster than us. I was behind Lorenzo, I tried to pass him but couldn't do it. Jorge was braking hard and was slow in the centre of the turns, in trying to pass him I put the rear tyre under too much stress and paid for that”.

Something he realised ten laps from the end.

The tyres let me down too early, but it's impossible to know whether I asked too much or made the wrong rear tyre choice. With just two dry practice sessions, mistakes can happen, we can't always be perfect and must learn from this mistake. Sometimes it's easy to read the weekend, sometimes it's not”.

Lorenzo is now one point ahead in the standings, while Marquez extends his lead to 72 points.

There's no point focusing on Marc right now, we need to catch Valentino and fight with Jorge. The next race is Silverstone, where I won last year despite not being the fastest, as Marquez broke his engine. We'll definitely be competitive”.

And probably fighting with Lorenzo once more. Marc has said he's pleased Jorge is leaving Ducati for Honda, does the move worry Dovi?

Before I answer I'd prefer to see how he goes on that bike" he smiles.
