Marc Marquez, yes him! Just two thousandths of a second to beat Andrea Dovizioso's time and secure a first historic pole at the Red Bull Ring. With this result, the Spaniard sends a clear warning shot to Ducati, that won't be underestimating its long-time rival.

“I'm excited because I've felt competitive all weekend – states Marc - I made a small change in FP1 and this allowed me to be fast. Despite the mixed conditions, I've been quick, particularly in FP4”.

Marc is asked about the modification.

“I can't say but during the race simulation we used something new that we tested at Brno and that gave us good sensations."

This weekend, the Spaniard is fighting on enemy turf.

“This is Ducati territory, so we'll try to be strong. The warm-up will be key in order to understand the tyres and made final changes. I have good sensations with the soft and medium solutions, but it should be hotter tomorrow”.

Marquez goes on to talk about his race expectations.

“I cannot forget my current championship position, tomorrow I'll see what sensations I have in the race and try to stay out front if possible. If I'm battling with Dovi and Jorge on the final lap, I'll have a go, using my head though, because I'm leading the championship and it's better to lose five points than twenty-five”.

The Spaniard seems clear about tyre choice.

“I'd say the medium at the front, also because I wouldn't know about the hard, I prefer to be slower but surer. In FP4 I had good pace, despite the old tyre, and then in qualifying with new tyres I was immediately fast”.

Some are asking whether the F1 test could have benefitted him.

“The F1 was a fantastic experience but it didn't help me. With the F1 single-seater you can really exploit the last turn, with the bike it's different”.

Finally, Marc responds to a tweet in which Spies praises his performance through the middle section.

"I feel good through the left-handers but I can see that Dovizioso has also been studying as he's improved (he smiles)”.
