MotoGP: Lorenzo: "I could have been on pole, there was a misunderstanding"

He'll start from the final spot on the front row, alongside Andrea Dovizioso. Jorge Lorenzo is readying his weapons ahead of tomorrow's race, in which it looks as if he'll fight on equal terms with Marc and the Italian. In qualifying, T3 put paid to his hopes of securing pole position.

We know it would be tough to challenge for pole. If I'd been able to put in a new soft tyre I could have done it. Unfortunately there was a little misunderstanding in the garage, but the important thing is that we're on the front row and our pace is good”.

Everyone's wondering what strategy he will adopt.

I don't think I did badly at Brno, I need to analyse the data and then evaluate things. The weather didn't allow us to analyse all the tyres of course, the soft might offer more grip, but we don't know. I don't think Dovi and Marc will be very strong at the start”.

A lot will depend on #99 then.

“Maybe so, if I don't push in the first two laps, they won't be fast either".

The Majorcan isn't underestimating anyone. Not even #93, who states he'll be racing with the title in mind.

“That will depend on Marc's confidence in the opening laps, if he's close to us he may attack. If there's a situation like Brno, he might settle”.

Lorenzo touches on the aerodynamics.

“I think I'll use the same as Dovi, we've both changed but the sensations are similar and the differences small”.

One final step is now necessary.

unfortunately I'm still missing something, I don't know if it comes down to bike adjustments or not, I need to understand how to behave, making the most of warm-up”.

Lastly, he makes reference to the Yamaha project manager's apology to Rossi and Vinales.

“I remember that I was blamed for the mistake at the start at Austin in 2014. Yamaha definitely has high regard for its riders, though this situation is a little extreme for them, as the Red Bull Ring is their worst track”.
