There's a Yamaha on the podium at Assen. It's not Valentino Rossi's though, but Maverick Vinales' who took advantage of the mistake made by Dovi and Valentino in the final stages to reach the top three. The TT has therefore put a smile back on the Spaniard's face.

It was a great race, a pity about the last lap - starts Maverick - we've been able to improve the electronics and sensations were good with the frame too. I was able to be competitive through the fast turns and must say we've done a great job".

Maverick continues.

The team and I focused on the early laps, trying to get away well and in the end, the result was positive. To tell the truth, I thought I could win, but in the final stages the tyre was too worn on the right side”.

Despite this, Maverick commends the tyres.

“The tyres were perfect, I was able to be consistent, finding the right stability. Right from FP2, I felt competitive and in the end I had the same sensations in the race”.

Vinales was in the mix from start to finish.

Rather than a bike race, it was more like a horse race, where all you could do was look ahead, never turning around. This is an important result. The Yamaha still isn't the same as the one I started with, but we're getting there”.

Maverick now seems to have the path mapped out.

Assen is a very fast track and these aspects condition us, in that gaps are contained meaning groups form. But I have to say that the track suits my characteristics and we were able to improve step by step. Last year it was easy to be fast, now it's all more complicated. I always had the desire to win though”.
