MotoGP: Dovizioso: what do I need? to remain calm

Keeping calm will be enough”, Andrea Dovizioso has clear ideas about how to face the Assen weekend. The Italian is coming off the back of a DNF at Barcelona “a zero is always heavy, particularly for me” he admits, but he's sure he can turn things around. His Ducati has everything he needs to get back on track and Dovi has already proved that he knows exactly how to ride it.

I've often found myself in situations in which I have to battle to find more speed, but I have it now and this will help".

So what do you need to do?
Work on the details, focusing on the fine tuning. We just need to interpret the situation as best we can, we don't need any particular changes”.

What's changed with respect to last year?
The rear tyre is slightly different and this has a bearing. I won't say that what worked on the Desmosedici in 2017 no longer works, but it doesn't work as well. But there are also positive compared to last year”.

Such as?
We're faster and I'm sure that we can do more. Every race requires different solutions and it's not always easy to interpret what's needed during the short time available over the weekend”.

Are they the details you referred to earlier?
“Yes, we are in a situation in which we have to understand how to work out the final details”.

Like using a fairing with or without wings?
The aerodynamics don't make a real difference. A setup can't turn a situation around, but if you find the right one then you have good sensations and are faster”.

What do you expect from Assen?
I don't know, last year it was a nice surprise that we were fast in the race, the fastest at one point. Now I expect to be more competitive, and to face fast rivals, including Valentino.

Can you make any predictions?
It looks like it will be hot and we'll need to see how the tyres will behave in temperatures that are unusual for this track”.
