MotoGP, Lorenzo: no point thinking too much about the championship

"The important thing is to continue working as we've done up until now". Dovizioso: "with Jorge competitive, we need to come to every GP with clear ideas"

MotoGP: Lorenzo: no point thinking too much about the championship

Jorge Lorenzo's shares have risen thanks to his double at Mugello and Barcellona. What was looking to be failure has been turned into success and the Majorcan is now among those who can fight for the title. Not an easy task, far from it, considering the 66-point lead that Marquez has over him (the same goes for Dovizioso), but there are 12 races still to run of course.

Assen will be rather an odd round for Ducati, that has only won in Holland once, with Stoner. Lorenzo has also scored only one win, while the 2013 accident still stands out in his mind. The Majorcan has nevertheless shown that he is often able to turn predictions around.

The two wins in a row at Mugello and Montmeló were somet hing really great and important, but the championship never stops and now we must show we can be quick on all types of tracks including Assen. Maybe it’s not the best circuit for us, but I’m sure we can be competitive. We must approach everything race by race, aware that every Grand Prix is important."

And every point scored can make the difference.

For the moment it’s not a question of thinking about the championship title: what is important is to work the way we’ve been doing so far and always keep our confidence high. Assen is a historic track and it’s always special to race here: we will obviously have to take account of the weather conditions because they can play an important role, as happens almost every year.”

DOVIZIOSO: I WILL CALMLY GET BACK TO BEING STRONGER THAN BEFORE - While Lorenzo seeks confirmation, Andrea wants to interrupt the negative trend. The crash at Barcelona caused him to lose even more points and now it's time to turn things around, before it's too late.

I usually need a couple of days to metabolize a bad DNF like the one at Barcelona, and that was also the case this time. Now that we’ve had a chance to carefully analyse the last race and try and understand what happened, I’m focused on the next GPs."

Dovi is convinced that Lorenzo's speed will only spur him on more.

There are always positive aspects to every situation, and with a competitive team-mate like Jorge, it’s even more important to work well and arrive at the next race with clear ideas. In the last few races we have always been fast and competitive, and so at Assen we will have to stay calm and focus on getting back to being stronger than before.”
