SBK: At Laguna Seca Rea kills everyone except boredom

In the Californian sunshine at Laguna Seca, Johnny Rea - just like yesterday - beat everything and everyone, starting out ninth, getting past the eight men ahead of him and winning his sixty-second race undisturbed (yes, race win number 62 for the Cannibal, a record tally that never ceases to grow), his eighth victory of the season, extending his championship lead and leaving his closest rivals with crumbs.

Some of the credit has to go to team Provec's factory Kawasaki of course, but if we look at Tom Sykes' performance today - eighth and far off the mark in the rider's standings - a large part of this supremacy comes down to the Northern Irishman, who rides gracefully and decisively:I'm really happy, this is truly a California dream for me, I dedicate the win to Perez, who died at Barcelona”.

Chaz Davies once again finished in second place, without even getting a chance to bother Rea, who was already out in front when the Welshman was battling to climb from fifth to third place; not a bad result for the Aruba team but the twin is right on the limit, #7 often having to perform a balancing act to keep pace with the green number 1 bike:I'm pleased with second pace and I had fun too."

A great podium, at last, for Eugene Laverty, fully recovered after his serious accident earlier in the season; the Aprilia RSV4 has grown as has the Irishman, as he seeks a valid place for 2019:I'm pleased for me, but above all for the team, we deserve this result”. Considering Savadori's retirement, Eugene is the strongest of the Milwaukee team right now.

In the "usual" Yamaha derby, between Lowes and Van Der Mark, it was Alex who won out this time, executing an impressive pass on Michael in the final stages to score fourth place.

Sixth for Xavi Fores, who put together a strong race, seventh for the MV Agusta ridden by Spaniard Jordi Torres, who got the better of Tom Sykes, eighth; and here's another thing, while Rea is destroying records, Tom is destroying tyres, having them on the same team next year would only be an advantage for Johnny.

Ninth for local hero Jake Gagne, the first Honda across the line; Camier crashed before finishing thirteenth, behind Ramos and ahead of debuting rider Hanika. Loris Baz also reached the points, tenth with the Althea BMW. We haven't forgotten about Marco Melandri, who had a tough race that ended in the gravel.

Championship standings: Rea 320, Davies 245, Van Der Mark 215.
