Those with passing marks on the first day of practice in Barcelona certainly include Andrea Iannone who can rely on his second best time in the afternoon session. In spite of this, the number 29 rider is happy, but not about everything. “I am rather satisfied, although I don’t feel like I’m in great form. I am happy about many things, but I need to improve many aspects and I need to be able to be more precise. We confirmed the sensations of the tests, but we still need to see what will happen over the long run with the tyres, avoiding deterioration in the second half of the race like what happened in Mugello.”

On topic to discuss is the new asphalt, which made the situation better but still tricky.

“In the tests, there was not much grip and it is still like that. It is certainly better than the old asphalt, but you can feel that it is not like other tracks. The asphalt laid outside the first corner is most dangerous – it is very slippery. The only thing that worries me is being able to maintain my pace for race distance since, if we can manage that, we could always be podium contenders.”

Obviously, the episode between the Italian and Aleix Espargaró, his future teammate, just had to come up.

“Aleix is always like that. I found him behind me. I gave him a tow for one or two laps and at the end of the straight he braked late, so I had to lift up the bike and I ended up running long, and in spite of that, he even started yelling. Then we started again, he keeps waiting and complains. I’m not out here on the track to play, but to race and work.”
