Fourth on the starting grid, fourth across the line. Andrea Iannone headed to the Mugello race with aggressive intentions, also bolstered by his first place time in warm up, but the podium remained a missed mark. “I gave it my all and obviously I hoped to finish the race on the podium. We struggled with the rear tyre since the temperature was much higher and that led us to lose in acceleration, especially on the straight, so it was difficult to make up the time lost on the corners.”

Despite this, The Maniac did not lose his smile and he is saving all the good the weekend brought.

“I am very happy with the race. I pushed from the start and then slowed the pace a bit to give the tyres a rest. I knew that the last part of the race would be important, so I tried to give it 100%. Fourth is a good result and I hope to improve in a few areas to be at the top more consistently.”

Suzuki’s weekend ended in a positive way also thanks to Alex Rins who finished behind his teammate. “I am happy because I did not expect this result. Yesterday I had a bad crash and took a blow to the shoulder. During the race, I suffered because of this but I tried to focus on the race and not on the shoulder, so I am happy with this fifth place.”

It is a race that gives the Spaniard plenty of experience in anticipation of one of his home Grand Prix rounds.

“I learned a lot from this race. I managed the high temperatures and loss of grip at the front well. We gave it our all and the team worked well. Tomorrow I will have more exams in hospital so I can try to recover for Barcelona.”
