MotoGP: Petrucci: Pirro's crash? That spot has become dangerous

It feels like home in the Pramac Ducati garage, and the start of the weekend has proven to be encouraging since both Jack Miller and Danilo Petrucci can momentarily count on a spot in the top ten. The rider who is farther back is Danilo Petrucci, in ninth. First of all, I hope that Michele is okay – Petrux began – since I only just now saw his crash and we were all frightened. He really took a bad fall and I hope that everything is fine. Besides that, we are in a bit of difficulty compared to last year in terms of confidence, but at least we got into the top ten for now. Last year it seemed like the Ducatis had a small advantage over the others – this year it doesn’t.”

Danilo goes into detail talking about his problems:I’m not able to take good advantage of the tyres. They all seem too hard, so I need to change the settings a lot compared to Le Mans. The Suzukis, and especially Iannone, were strong, as were Marquez and the Yamahas. At Le Mans I wasn’t in the best shape either on Friday, but then Saturday I found my way, so we won’t give up.”

One possible explanation for Danilo’s difficulties could be the missed tests at Mugello: Not testing has an impact, especially on the way the tyres perform, since at the start of the session this morning, we realized that we were in difficulty. I don’t know who decided not to test here, but we paid the price. Tyre degradation is high. The weather doesn’t worry me, but we know that the highest performance tyres work best with the heat.”

Thoughts then return to Michele Pirro and his terrifying and strange crash: The drop at the end of the straight is dangerous because you do it on only one wheel at top speed. The problem is that the hill is accompanied by a dip and the bike never reacts the same way. I think that Michele’s callipers must have spread and when he tried to brake the second time, he went down. The bikes have been very unstable in that spot for the last two or three years. Maybe we’ll talk about it today in safety commission to try to at least even out the track a bit.”

On the other hand, the rider who did better was Jack Miller, taking the fifth best time. “I was able to improve my time, but in the final part of the session, the bike moved around a lot and it was strange. My pace has been very good since this morning, so it’s a positive day for us.”

The Australian feels at ease in the saddle and he makes no bones about it. “I am liking the bike and I am having fun riding it. Pirro? It seems like after some shaking up, he tried to brake and on the second attempt he had something like a lock-up. It was a scary accident and I hope he is okay.”
