Johann explains: "I have a competitive pace and tyre wear is lower on this track. My fans give me positive energy"

MotoGP: Zarco: I can keep believing in the win

The fact that Johann Zarco may have played the part of the prophet in his native land was predictable, but so far, number 5 is exceeding even the highest of expectations. In fact, pole position did not get away from him, thanks to a lap where he truly showed that he knows how to squeeze the most out of his Yamaha. “In the first outing, I felt that the new tyre had something more on the single lap, so on the second outing I tried to exploit it. I was surprised when I saw the time. I almost couldn’t believe it. It is moving to feel the fans like this already in qualifying.”

As always, the Frenchman is paying attention to detail, and on his home track, he seems to have found more than favourable conditions.

"My pace is good. I am not the best, but I am competitive. The positive thing here at Le Mans is that when I take a step forward in the setup, I feel the improvements both with the new tyre and with the used one. I can say that we have been working well since the beginning of the weekend, staying consistently in the top positions.”

Now it’s time to think about the race, where the biggest problem for Zarco has often been excessive tyre wear.

"Compared to other tracks, tyre deterioration is not the same. This could help me and the other Yamaha riders. Marc is the strongest. We need to try to take the lead straight away to avoid risks in the middle of the pack and then see if we can battle for the win. I don’t know if it will be possible to win, but every weekend I feel closer to this goal.”

So all that’s left is to hope, to achieve that wonderful goal called victory.

The sensations I have received let me keep dreaming for tomorrow, hoping that everything keeps going this way. The fans are giving me a lot of positive energy.”
