MotoGP: Iannone: Tomorrow will take intelligence

If there is a superhero suited for Andrea Iannone, it is definitely Deadpool. Easygoing, heedless of the rules and sometimes insolent. So the special helmet Andrea showed off dedicated to the Marvel character could not help but bring him luck, resulting in the fourth spot on the starting grid for the race tomorrow. “We are all very close in the standings today – The Maniac began – and it only takes a tenth of a second to make a leap. We are happy with how it went, since it was not easy here and we struggled more than we expected to. This morning we managed to improve little by little until earning this important spot on the second row.”

There is satisfaction in the words of the number 29 rider, well aware of how well he and his team are doing.

“I am happy with the way we are working. Maybe we should have started doing it yesterday already, sine the others improved and we didn’t, but today we figured out which way to go and we improved. It certainly was not easy to start fourth and be so close to the leaders after the experience last year.”

In any case, there is no lack of rivals, and Andrea has a clear idea of who to keep an eye on.

“We have a decent pace. The problem is that, in my opinion, the Ducatis will make the difference in the second half of the race, as will the Hondas. We struggle in acceleration and consequently on the straight too. It will be important to see whether the temperature lets us brake hard and have confidence in the front, whereas for the tyres, we’ll see tomorrow.”

In any case, the dream of his third podium in a row is difficult, but not impossible.

“Tomorrow will be very difficult. It will take a lot of intelligence and the ability to always make the right choice. It would be nice to take the third podium in a row, but we may be lacking a few tenths. I asked for more traction coming out of turns. We’ll see if we can manage that.”

It would have been impossible not to talk about the rider market, given the Italian’s recent good results.

“I have always said that my priority is to stay with Suzuki. We are at a good point in our discussions. We gave ourselves a deadline of the early races and now that they are ending, we’ll see. I am not worried about my future. Soon I’ll say which team I’ll be on next year.”
