MotoGP: Dovizioso: The gap behind the Hondas is too big

In Jerez, will Dovizioso need to grit his teeth again or will he be able to go on the attack? This was the question he tried to answer today and his 6th place (behind the Honda armada plus Iannone and Zarco) did not remove all doubts. It is not a disastrous position, but it seems that his closest rivals are still a step ahead.

It’s difficult to make a normal comparison between me and my adversaries, because in FP2 they started with the used medium tyre on the rear, whereas I had a new soft tyre. Let’s hope the medium does better” Andrea joked.

What were you able to figure out?
That the gap behind the three Hondas and Iannone is too big. That said, I still had good sensations in the saddle and I had more fun than usual riding on this track. I think we have the potential to improve and get close to the best, also because I didn’t ride impeccably.”

What is the biggest problem?
I struggle to connect the entrance and exit to the corners. Plus, the rear tyre is acting strange. It bounced around a lot, maybe because it was too soft. I didn’t ride cleanly. I made too many mistakes, but the practice was useful.

What is the most critical part of the track?
The second half of the circuit, and especially the third sector. We aren’t smooth through the turns but, as I said, I have good feelings.

You didn’t use the fairing with the winglets. Will you tomorrow?
On paper I should, but I have my own idea and I won’t (smiling).”

How important are good qualifiers on this track?
On narrow circuits like this one, starting up front is essential in order to avoid the risk of losing too much time in the early laps.”

It would seem, on the other hand, that you don’t need to be too concerned about the factory Yamaha machines…
I am surprised because I expected them to be very fast. Zarco did well and in truth, Valentino is not in bad shape, but he isn’t at the front. However, there are still two practice sessions to work in and everything could still change, for them as well as for us.
